			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>It&#8217;s really incredible what kind of quality programs open source can create.  Most people are aware of the well-known ones like Linux, Firefox, or Open Office.  However, before you go and pay for your next piece of software I&#8217;d recommend making sure that something isn&#8217;t available for free first.</p>
<p>The <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Portal:Free_software/categories" target="_blank">Wikipedia Free Software Portal</a> is a great resource.  Sorted by category, you can quickly locate any open source software that might be able to do what you&#8217;re looking for.</p>
<p>There are some stunning graphic programs out there for anyone who hasn&#8217;t got their hands on a copy of Photoshop.  Even those who own Photoshop might want to check out some of the freely offered programs.  Many are suited to a niche of image editing (in particular, photo editing) and because of this the tools and user interface is rather handy.</p>
<p>Definitely a site to bookmark.</p>
